Privacy Policy — Undo-Ai

This privacy policy describes how the Undo-Ai Chrome extension ("the extension", "we", "our") handles information. Undo-Ai is published by Julian Oosthuizen as an independent developer.

1. Summary

Undo-Ai does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data or the text you rewrite. All text processing happens either on your device (via Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano AI) or through a local rule-based engine bundled with the extension. Your text never leaves your computer by virtue of using this extension.

The one exception is payment processing: if you purchase a paid plan, a third-party service (ExtensionPay) is used to verify your subscription status. ExtensionPay does not receive any of your rewritten text.

2. What the extension stores locally

The extension uses chrome.storage.local to store the following on your device only:

Usage counter — a per-day count of how many rewrites you've performed, used to enforce the free-tier daily limit. Resets at local midnight.
Preferences — your default tone and imperfection settings, and whether you've dismissed the disclaimer.
Rewrite history — the last 20 rewrites (input + output), stored locally so you can reference recent work. You can clear this at any time from the options page.
Review reward status — whether you've claimed the free-month reward, and when that reward expires.
Cached tier flag — a local cache of your current plan tier, so the popup can render instantly before re-verifying.

This data never leaves your device. It is not synced to any server. Uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage removes all of it.

3. Text processing

When you click "Rewrite", the extension passes your pasted text to one of two engines:

Gemini Nano (preferred): Chrome's built-in on-device language model, accessed via the browser's Prompt API. This model runs locally on your machine. Your text is not sent to Google, Anthropic, or any other server.
Rule-based fallback: A set of deterministic text transformations bundled inside the extension. Runs entirely in the popup's JavaScript context. No network involved.

The extension does not contain any code that sends your rewritten text to a remote server. You can verify this by inspecting the extension's source (available on GitHub) or by watching network activity in Chrome DevTools while rewriting.

4. Payment processing (ExtensionPay)

Paid subscriptions are handled by ExtensionPay, a third-party payment service built specifically for Chrome extensions. When you initiate a purchase or check your subscription status, the extension communicates with extensionpay.com over HTTPS.

ExtensionPay receives:

A random anonymous user ID generated by ExtensionPay itself (not tied to your identity).
Your email address (only if you enter one to complete a purchase).
Payment details (handled by ExtensionPay's own payment processor — Stripe — never by this extension).

ExtensionPay never receives the text you rewrite. Their privacy policy is available at extensionpay.com/privacy.

5. Analytics and tracking

The extension contains no analytics, telemetry, or tracking code. No Google Analytics. No error-reporting SDK. No event logging. We do not know how often you use the extension or what you rewrite.

6. Permissions explained

storage — to save your preferences, usage counter, and history locally.
alarms — to keep the service worker alive during rewrites and to reset the daily counter at midnight.
Host permission for https://extensionpay.com/* — required by the ExtensionPay library to verify your subscription and launch checkout. No other hosts are contacted.

7. Review reward

The "free month for an honest review" offer operates on an honor system. Clicking "Claim reward" inside the extension grants you 30 days of Monthly-tier access locally. We do not verify that you actually left a review, and we do not read Chrome Web Store review data. The reward can only be claimed once per installation.

8. Children

Undo-Ai is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any material way, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
